The otherworldly nature of my work emerges from a profound love for anatomy, as I explore the bodily realm through pencil drawings and handwoven sculptures. Growth, mutations, and metamorphoses take over with luscious networks of veins and muscles. All these bodily tissues can be traced throughout my work with tempting pearlescent hues and distorted shapes.
The kinship between humankind and nature plays a significant role in my work. I express this by fusing anatomical structures of human beings and arthropods, like spiders or roaches, because of their visual similarities. From my anatomical pencil studies, I develop sculptures and hyper-realistic drawings of evolving organisms. Refined details guide the eye closer, revealing mutating, alien-like qualities.
The sharp edge in my visual language is of autobiographical origin. Although I give expression to issues that are interwoven with pain, fear, and violence, I especially enhance the beauty and preciousness of the body. Inspired by the dissection of the human form, I prioritise curiosity and careful observation to understand life’s complexities. This mindset shapes my work, where a clear, comprehensive view is key. It leads to works with flowing strands of bodily tissue, symbolising continuous growth and endless wonder.
